This week we have had lots of Chanukah fun. On Monday and Thursday we lit the menorah outside, which proved a little tricky because it was quite windy!

We did some lovely Chanukah crafts. We made fabulous dreidel cushions out of felt, we  even added arms and legs and googly eyes. Year 1 also made some brilliant candle Chanukah crowns to remind us of the miracle of the light that burned for 8 days and nights.

Later in the week, we joined the ‘Unite with light’ virtual menorah, lighting via Zoom. Lots of schools joined the conference call and lit their menorahs too, and hundreds of children from across the country joined in with the fun. We watched some magic tricks, sang lots of Chanukah songs, danced and lit our menorahs.

Year 1 really enjoyed joining in with the PTA ‘Chanukah Madness’ fancy dress extravaganza, there were some really fantastic costumes on each day. We particularly enjoyed all the elaborate hairstyles and Wacky Wednesday costumes! Every day we also had a prize raffle for lighting the menorah, to enter you had to have a signed slip from your parents, and you could win Lego kits, art sets or spinning dreidels.
